Sunset in Dubai

I spent the day at the beach yesterday....in preparation for a special visitor coming on Saturday.

These photos were taken by my sister, Lucy. This is exactly as the sky looked when she took the photos....they have not been edited and were taken using a standard canon camera. I have never been as close to the sun as you are here in Dubai, it almosts feels as though you could walk over and touch it...

Behind the Lens

There are some beautiful sunsets here, bright oranges, yellows, pinks, purples and blues. My mission for the weekend is to try and capture this in a photo...

Lou Illustrator. This person is seriously talented I absolutely love these illustrations, especially the one with the lost person and the map (probably the geography student in me coming out).

Heart a lot.

For my 21st I got a painting (which I will post a picture of soon). It's a still life of some purple grapes against a grey/black background. I am very picky with art especially when I am going to be looking at it everyday and usually I wouldnt like that style...a painting of an onion on a plate is not what I call art! But I love my painting and now I no longer see a still life painting as just some fruit on a plate. My sister has become somewhat of an art collector and casually bought this painting the other day. For every Christmas and birthday she now demands I make her something...she is going to need bigger walls as I'm sure she doesnt have much wall space left!

I went to the launch of Savoir Flair's Dubai edition a couple of weeks ago. The party had a great vibe, the house had been decorated beautifully and last but not least excellent goodie bags! The party also gave me the taste of the best sushi I have ever had. Incredible. If you are ever in Dubai go to Okku. They also had a fish fayce both...you may see a wee photo of me above. I quite literally resemble a gremlin...

Hello Mr Camel.

While driving on the Hatta road into the desert, we came across some camels having a wee seat there. Camels really are the strangest animals especially if you have ever seen them run...they look like they are running in slow motion. I seem to remember it was 41 degrees this day so probably not the smartest idea to go into the desert...scenes of Lawrence of Arabia comes to mind.

I went to see Amy Winehouse here in Dubai at the weekend. All I can say is im glad I got the tickets for free otherwise I would have been really disappointed... I always thought that what you read in the papers, magazines etc is exaggerated but it seems in the case of Ms. Winehouse they have been entirely true. She was literally on another planet, she walked off the stage at one point to leave her backup band to do the work and for the rest of the time mumbled her words in to the microphone while fiddling with her nails. I am just glad I didnt waste 300 Dirhams on her...

The knitted trainers are marvelous although I dont think my knitting skills can stretch to that yet. Trainer cake looks yummy. Especially those laces. Yum sugary chewy strawberry goodness.

I really like the idea of doing prints like this on Canvas and sewing into them. His work is so easy to connect with and unlike a lot of modern 'art', I understand why this is called art.

These have given me all kinds of inspiration for making something. Now I just need to find the time...
